Travel with your taste buds as First Presbyterian Church of Easton presents a Kenyan Dinner on Saturday, March 25, 2017. The Kenyan Dinner will be held in the church’s Legacy Hall from 4:30 to 7:00 PM. Dinners are available to eat in or take out. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for students; children five and under eat for free. Maggie Muthoka is coordinating the dinner arrangements. Call for reservations and tickets by contacting Shirley Van Norman, 610-258-4259.

Enjoy a sampling of authentic Kenyan foods including Samosas (savory pastry turnovers with a mildly spicy beef filling), Pili-Pili (hot sauce), Kachumbari (a colorful chopped salad), Chapatti (flatbread), Basmati rice, Mchuzi ya nyama (beef stew with vegetables and herbs), Cardamom Chicken (marinated and sautéed chicken breast), Sukuma Wiki (collard greens and onion), Kabeji (sautéed cabbage with turmeric), Ugali (corn meal mush), Coconut Ndengu (dried green peas in a coconut milk sauce). For dessert, enjoy Mandazi (Kenyan donuts) and Ice Cream served with Kenyan Coffee (Kahawa #1) and Chai Masala (ginger tea with spices).

Kenya is a multi-racial, diverse nation and traditional Kenyan food reflects the many different lifestyles of various groups. There are about 42 tribes or ethnic groups in Kenya, each with its own unique history and culture, and each contributing to the country’s culture and heritage. The dishes being served at the Kenyan Dinner reflect different regions and styles of Kenyan cuisine.

To set the mood for the dinner, recordings of music from Kenya will be played, and there will be a display of Kenyan arts and crafts. Tables will be decorated with the traditional Lesso, a brightly colored cotton cloth typical of the area.
