I’ve always been fascinated by the wisdom and knowledge that is found in stories told to me by my elders. In October of 2014 I decided that elders would be my next project. These images transcend photography. They are experiential and educational.
The photographs were titled “Listen” when I stumbled upon the term “Elderism.” The idea that someone by virtue of having lived longer has gained more experience and knowledge. That knowledge can then be passed down to a younger generation. However, if the generation isn’t listening we lose that knowledge.
I, personally, never got to know everything I wanted to about my own grandparents, and will always regret that. It is my hope, and goal that this project will help restore the process of passing down knowledge from one generation to the next.
