NCHGS’s Museum and a Movie series showcases independent, international, and historical short films relevant to our museum exhibits and the communities we serve.

August 2022’s feature is A House Without Snakes, a 2016 documentary film directed by Daniel Koehler. The film follows two young Bushmen in Botswana as they struggle to build a future in the wake of their relocation from their ancestral homelands.

Ketelelo looks to education as a way to reinvent himself and provide for his family. Meanwhile, Kitsiso wonders whether he should stay in his ancestral homeland to honor his father or seek a new life in town. The film is an intimate coming-of-age portrait that explores the tension between modernity and tradition through the lens of two individuals’ hopes and fears.

A House Without Snakes is 28 minutes in length and will be shown at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 PM in the John R. Austen Auditorium of the Sigal Museum. Seating will be arranged to accommodate social distancing. Masks must be worn in the museum at all times.
