NCHGS’s Museum and a Movie series showcases independent, international, and historical short films relevant to our museum exhibits and the communities we serve.

June 2022’s feature is Gold Token, a short film from Ewurakua Dawson-Amoah that challenges the aestheticizing of Black lives.

Described as a “critique of surface-level activism”, Gold Token is both visually stunning and experimental. The short film is set to poetry to better explore, in Dawson-Amoah’s words, “Black ancestry, tokenism, cyclical pains, and ultimately how society uses the black experience, especially in recent years, as an aesthetical piece for consumption.”

Gold Token will be shown at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 PM in the John R. Austen Auditorium of the Sigal Museum. Masks must be work in the auditorium.
