“Uncle Jerry Roth: Father of the Great Allentown Fair,” Simonee deFuccio.

Jeremiah Roth (1833-1907), prominent Lehigh County citizen, began his life in Lower Saucon Township and attended school in Bethlehem, before moving to Allentown. He was known locally as the Father of the Allentown Fair. He was also an internationally known cattle (Jersey and Holstein) and horse breeder (his horses pulled NYC fire engines!), successful entrepreneur, state politician (four times elected to state legislature for Lehigh County), and a pioneer in the use of electricity.

Simonee deFuccio’s habitation in the farmhouse that once belonged to Roth inspired her to research his life and contributions. She has written a monograph on her findings which will be for sale the day of her talk at the Sigal Museum.
