Our Paint-a-Hydrant program invites local artists and creative teams to transform 10 fire hydrants throughout downtown into eye-catching pieces that celebrate our community's spirit. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just love getting creative, this is your chance to leave your mark on downtown Easton.

Let's splash some color around town and give everyone something fun to discover as they explore downtown Easton! Requirements and application below.

Program Requirements

Artist Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must be available to paint during the scheduled painting event (September 26th, 5-7pm)

  • Bring your own tarps and paint brushes

  • You do not need to be a resident of Easton, PA

Design Requirements:

  • Original designs only (no copyrighted images)

  • No business logos or commercial endorsements

  • Design must not obstruct hydrant visibility for emergency services

  • Design must not "hide" the hydrant or make it blend into the background

  • Consider including yellow elements to maintain emergency visibility

  • Choose up to 5 colors from our available palette

  • Submit a drawing and description of your design

  • Reflective elements will be added to all hydrants after painting for nighttime visibility

Paint Information:

  • We will provide acrylic enamel paint with gloss finish, suitable for metal surfaces

  • Paint sourced from Sherwin Williams - acrylic, water-based

  • Available colors: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, White, Black (additional colors may be requested)

Important Notices:

  • Emergency operations take precedence: Fire department operations will always take priority over preserving artwork

  • No compensation for emergency damage: Artists understand that hydrants may be damaged during legitimate fire department use

  • Program location: Hydrants selected will be primarily on 3rd Street and Northampton Street in downtown Easton

  • Design approval: All designs will be reviewed by the Easton Main Street design committee and fire chief

Application deadline: August 15th, 2025. Online or mail-in applications are accepted.
