SBA Declaration Approved for Northampton County

The U.S. Small Business Administration has approved a declaration for the primary county of Northampton as a result of the storms and flash flooding event from July 15 – July 16. All counties included in the declaration are eligible to apply for physical damage SBA loans as well as the Economic Injury Disaster Loans for small businesses.
The Commonwealth is working with Northampton County to determine a site for a Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) and will provide an update on the location once selected. Click “More” for the declaration and information on the disaster loans that will be available.

Parking Garage Validation

The new Fourth Street Parking Garage has a system in place that would allow individual businesses to validate and pay for customer parking.
Business owners can enter a portal, type in the customer’s ticket number, and then pay for the parking session on a credit card of choice. The program requires that a pre-paid balance be placed on the credit card so that validations can be deducted from the balance. When the balance reaches zero you can choose to contact the City to replenish the balance on the card. The minimum starting balance will be $100.
If you are interested in receiving a login for the program, please reach out to Dave Hopkins at publicworks@easton-pa.gov.

2023 Easton holiday ornament commemorates hometown favorite The Quadrant

The Easton Main Street Initiative has unveiled its highly anticipated 2023 holiday ornament — the Quadrant Book Mart & Coffee House, a quaint hometown gem located in the heart of Easton’s historic downtown district — in the 10th annual year of honoring city landmarks with these exclusive local collectibles.

The ornaments cost $20 and are available starting October 7 and October 8 at the Easton Main Street Garlic Knot sales tent during Easton Garlic Fest before availability opens online at store.shopdowntowneaston.com starting October 9. Ornaments will also be available at select merchants in Downtown Easton and at the info tents at the Easton Farmers’ Market and the Easton Winter Village, which opens Nov. 18 through Dec. 17, 2023. Proceeds of the ornament sales support EMSI, a program of the non-profit Greater Easton Development Partnership, and help offset holiday events and programs EMSI hosts.

Only 750 ornaments are crafted for purchase. Past ornaments have sold out quickly as a precious, commodity holiday item.

The Quadrant Book Mart & Coffee House joins nine other beloved Easton landmarks commemorated as unique decorative ornaments: The Peace Candle, Easton Bugler, Easton Farmers’ Market, Northampton Street “Free” Bridge, State Theatre, Cottingham Stadium, The Carmelcorn Shop, Laubach’s Department Store and last year’s Mount Vernon Hotel. The volunteer EMSI Events Committee decides the ornament subject at the beginning of every year, representing a piece of Easton. Ornaments are custom made in the USA by Beacon.

For many Eastonians, purchasing an ornament is a cherished tradition to kick-off the holiday season and for the businesses and landmarks recognized it’s even more special. With pride and sincere gratitude, Jo Moranville, one of the owners of The Quadrant, said , “As caretakers of this old building, with its deep history in the community, we could not be more pleased to be renowned with this beautiful ornament. It will have an esteemed place on our tree for years to come. We love knowing that this will serve as a remembrance for so many others, who also love the history and beautiful architecture of Easton.”

Since the program’s existence, over 7,000 ornaments have been sold, with countless shipped all over the United States, proving Easton is a touchstone location enriched with history, culture, beauty and lifestyle. Do not hesitate to add to your collection before it’s too late!
